jim morrison

kas ma olen eksinud?

kahe tuhande viiendal aasta
mai keskel kiirustasin amsterdamis
hollandi pealinnas hotelli poole
olin juba raudteelaste streigi tõttu
igale poole hiljaks jäänud
üsna hotelli lähedal
peatas mind jim morrison ja küsis
hey are you lost
vastasin et no man
no problem man
i'm not lost i'm just on a hurry
no problem thanks
i can help you
i can help you to find the way
your way
ütles morrison
no problem
hõikasin üle õla
ja läksin hotelli

II ms memoriaal

eestis minu pärastsõjaaegse maja taga

minu pärastsõjaaegse maja taga
oli vundamendiküngas
võis näha keldri
sisseminekuvõlvi
võibolla oli seda mingi aeg
pärast sõda veel keldrina kasutatudki
keldrimäelt liugu lastes
lõin ükskord oma pea
kõmakaga ära
see seletab paljut

tra_art

Short overview of Vahur Afanasjev's solo music project tra_art.

I started making music or something like music as a teenager. I’m not a musician; I just have used and will use guitar, voice, drum, harmonica, flute, computer etc for expressing myself. I’ve tried to take part in bands as a teenager, but didn’t come to any results. Even not to a single concert. Computer makes it much easier. I can command the band, I can just write down the notes and they will be played the way I want them to. I can’t much fail myself in performing the music.
I discovered computer as and instrument in 2001. First I used only Sound Recorder, which is a standard feature in MS Windows. Then I came to freeware Jeskola Buzz, which is both modular synth and tracker.
The text in my electropunkish folk’n’drumroll is mostly in Estonian and usually does not have much meaning. Or has several. For some time I even entitled the songs with none-meaningful words in no language.

Short biography of Vahur Afanasjev

+32 49 4510845 • AFANASJEV@HOT.EE • WWW.HOT.EE/AFANASJEV

I was born on 24. August 1979 in Tartu, Estonia. It’s near the edge of the world but still in Europe. I’m native Estonian if judging by mother tongue. Russian family name comes from my grandfather, who happened to be in Estonia for two years after the WWII.
I remember that when I was a child, I tried to write a novel about eggs and aliens. Pity, can’t recall what seemed to connect eggs with extra-terrestrial guests. Having failed to become writer as a child I returned to writing in mid-teen years, caught by the punk and neoromantism. Poems. Anarchy on the edge of the world. Booze and masturbation. Fighting and scoring. Nothing special.
In 1998 I joined literary organisation (or more like a movement or a gang to hang with), The Young Author’s League. First texts published in magazines. Rhymed poems. Humour, sex and politics. Published a book of those poems, “Kandiline maailm” (“Square World”) in 2000.
I studied Public Economics 1998-2002 in Tartu University. Received BA degree in 2002. Later, 2003-2004, spent a year in MA studies learning contemporary communication theories etc.
On the same year published a book of short stories “Kanepi kirik” . It means both “The Church of Pot” and “The Church of Kanepi”; Kanepi is a small town in the far south of Estonia. Semi-autobiographical groaning about self-identification, girls, friends, booze, marihuana, psychology and psychedelic drugs, all pictured from the angle of fun.
In 2002 I started working as a journalist. First in Rakvere, Estonia. Then back in Tartu. And then I had enough of daily non-fiction. Since 2003 I have worked for advertising and design agency HAI (what a ambitious name, The Shark). Copywriter, creative director, project manager. Still do some things for HAI via Internet.
In 2004 I published another poetry book. I still nearly satisfied with it. Verse libre. Philosophy. Obscenity. The dirty eyes of a bystander. I based the book on the memories from an on-field-journalism week in Austria in year 2002.
In summer 2004 I got married. At least this in this field of life I’m pretty much settled down.
In year 2005 I’m planning to have two more books published, a novel and a poetry book. I managed to finish them quickly in February 2005 when started to live in Brussels. The novel is about a journalist who finds himself as a woman after accidental castration. The poetry book is about my hometown Tartu and is made by sampling and distorting excepts from Estonian classic and contemporary poetry.
Thanks to my wife who got a job in European Commission, I live a dandy-life now. Without work and mostly without obligations. Although I’m afraid I can’t enjoy this early retirement for a long time, as it is dull to sit at home.
